A gag bit is a type of horse bit that provides a higher level of control for the rider, often used on horses that are strong or tend to lean. It's distinguished by sliding cheekpieces that run through the bit rings and are attached to the headpiece of the bridle, creating a leverage effect that pulls the bit up into the corners of the horse's mouth. This can stimulate the horse to raise its head.
