For road safety, white lights must always face forward and red lights must always be at the back. This instantly communicates your direction of travel to drivers, just like with other road vehicles.

• White lights are brighter than yellow because they don’t use filters that dim their output. They better mimic natural sunlight, making you more visible to oncoming traffic.

Positioning multiple lights at different heights—such as one on your head and one on your stirrup or boot—does more than just increase brightness.
